- Large majority regularly de-tag themselves from pictures and remove comments on Facebook in case potential employer sees them
- 21% of employees believe the content of their Facebook page won’t affect their career opportunities
69% of working professionals regularly de-tag themselves from pictures and remove comments from their Facebook profiles because they could be detrimental to their careers, according to a recent global survey of more than 3,500 professionals by Robert Walters, the international recruitment consultancy.
At the same time, 21% of respondents think what they get up to on Facebook does not impact their careers, while only 10% say it’s not something they have thought about before.
Chris Hickey, Managing Director of UK Recruitment at Robert Walters, says:
“Employers are increasingly looking at potential recruits’ profiles on social networking websites, such as Facebook and Twitter, when hiring. Companies realise that these provide an opportunity to gain an insight into an individual’s personality outside of a professional context that they otherwise would not have access to.
“We would advise those who currently are not maintaining their profiles on social networking sites from a professional perspective to start doing so. Ultimately, your profiles on these sites represent you and can easily be found by anyone running a few simple online searches.”
