Six million Brits are losing sleep over work issues on a weekly basis – more than the entire population of Scotland, according to research from Rungway, the platform to give and get help at work.

In the past 12 months, two-fifths (40%) of UK workers have suffered high workloads or felt burnt out.  Men have faced fewer issues at work than women, with over two-fifths (42%) of women enduring high workloads or feeling burnt out compared to 38% of men.

Daniel Sanchez-Grant, who is responsible for the roll out of Rungway into businesses, commented “With increasing uncertainty over Brexit and elections we are all getting anxious, and we also have everyday work problems we are worrying about. Unlike external concerns, there are ways we can help ease and overcome common work issues. Most simply – talking to someone. No one should suffer in silence, but it can also be hard to reach out and many of us feel we can’t help others. That’s why Rungway was created – to provide people with an easy way to receive help and offer others advice.”

Fewer worries as you get older

Among age groups, 25 to 34-year-olds are the most worried about work, with more than a quarter (28%) saying work issues affect their sleep every week. Yet, it is the 35 to 44-year-olds who are facing the most problems at work. More than half (57%) of 35 to 44-year-olds have felt burnt out or had to deal with high workloads in the past 12 months.

On the other hand, employees over 55 have the most peaceful nights’ sleep, with only one in 10 saying that worries about work affect their sleep on a weekly basis. Still, in the past 12 months more than a fifth (21%) have faced high workloads or felt burnt out.

The results come from a survey by Rungway of 2,000 UK professionals in employment.
