Half of school leavers are concerned that there is too much competition for jobs, according to the Milkround School Leaver Career Confidence Report 2016. Now in its third year, the report consisting of more than 2,100 respondents was presented at an Insight Breakfast in London on Friday, September 9th.
Milkround's first Inside the Minds of Millennials Report was also launched at the event offering an exclusive insight into the generation which makes up the future workforce. Topics include social media, marriage and children, professionalism, as well as social values.
Over 50 clients and agencies attended the successful event, including John Lewis, ICAEW, and Capita. In addition to the two Milkround presentations, Channel 4 gave a broader view of the millennial mind-set looking at elements like alcohol consumption, TV habits, and generational differences.
An additional presentation was given by ThirtyThree and AXA, which informed clients how to develop powerful digital campaigns to source new talent. The event was rounded up with a lively panel of millennials answering audience questions.

Key stats from Milkround’s 2016 School Leaver Career Confidence Report:
- 82% of students say that university is the option they hear most about in school or college.
- Salary is the most important aspect of a job according to 60% of school leavers.
- 61% say subjects they are studying have helped them decide what industry they want to work in.
- 34% are likely to apply for a job after watching a branded company video.
- More than half (52%) would be willing to move abroad for a job opportunity.
Key stats from Milkround’s Inside the Minds of Millennials Report:
- Nearly three quarters (73%) of those who qualify as millennials actually would define themselves as millennials.
- One quarter (24%) believe that being branded as a millennial has negative connotations in the workplace.
- While 85% of millennials are planning to get married in the future and 82% want children, 64% believe that their career is equally important to romantic relationships.
- Nearly all (95%) millennials are hoping to own their home in the future, and 50% want it to happen between 36-30 years old.
- A third (33%) are or will be saving for retirement between 20-25 years old, and 31% are expecting to retire between 66-70 years old. 3% plan to retire at age 50 or lower.
