Brightwork Group staff make Leap Year special with an extra day to help good causes

Big-hearted staff at the Brightwork Group, the influential Scottish recruitment specialist, have a very special proposal to make for 2016's Leap Year - but it's not the traditional proposal of marriage by women to men.

Instead, the charity-minded recruitment professionals are proposing a Leap Year with a real difference. They will use the extra day which falls on February 29 to devote their business skills to good causes across Scotland.

Leap Days have been a time of tradition and superstition ever since Leap Years - 366 days instead of 365 - were first introduced by Julius Caesar more than 2000 years ago to regulate the calendar. And the Brightwork staff decided they needed something special to mark it.

They have offered their services to Volunteer Glasgow, the long-established charity organisation which helps inspire people to take action for the benefit of their neighbours, their communities, their city and their environment.

Charities, as volunteer organisations, are by their nature often in need of the professional and business skills necessary to make sure a modern organisation is well-run, accountable and compliant with regulatory regimes.

Shan Saba, Business Development Director at the Edinburgh- and Glasgow-based Brightwork Group, said: "The business skillsets we have, such as HR, administration, sales, finance, credit control and recruitment, will be invaluable to charities.

"We have more than 70 staff and we are delighted to be able to offer to facilitate their services for one day over the course of the year on a voluntary basis for any of the charities associated with both Volunteer Glasgow and Volunteer Edinburgh."

Volunteer Glasgow is one of a number of key partners developing and delivering Glasgow’s Strategic Volunteering Framework together with Glasgow Life, GCVS, Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Community Planning Partnership, the NHS, Glasgow’s schools, colleges and universities, the private sector, Glasgow Works, VDS, SCVO, VAS, and the city’s voluntary sector networks.

The Brightwork Group was established by recruitment experts Charles Turner and Anthony Knight in 2006. Since then it has established itself in drinks and industrial recruiting, facilities, sales and marketing, construction and property, contact centres, food and drink, office and finance and health and social care.
