CareerBuilder, Craigslist Sizzle While Monster, Yahoo! HotJobs Fizzle in Online Recruitment Advertising Battle, According to New Office Temps, Ltd.
New Office Temps, Ltd., one of Chicagoís leading Recruitment Process Outsourcing firms, released the results from its ongoing data analysis of leading online job boards. In data collected from April 1, 2006 to March 31, 2007, New Office tracked the job board referral source for each person who expressed interest in each of 871 NewHire(TM) Online Job Postings. A total of 41,563 job seekers came directly from one of four major job boards.
ìCareerBuilder remains the clear leader in the online advertising battle. Theyíve destroyed their paid competition, netting a ratio of 82 job seekers per advertisement,î said Chuck Smith, President of New Office Temps, Ltd. ìAt their current pricing [of $419 for an ad that runs for 30 days], our data suggests that companies are spending a little over five dollars to attract each candidate. Thatís a very good ROI for oneís advertising dollars when compared to [CareerBuilderís] paid competition, like Monster.com and Yahoo! HotJobs.î Smith continued, ìCraigslist.org also attracted a competitive 45 job seekers per advertisement. In fact, over the twelve months of this study, 15,000 of the [41,563] job seekers in this study were attracted with ads posted on Craigslist.org. And Craigslist postings are currently free for most of the country!î
The study examined postings on four major job boards: CareerBuilder (www.careerbuilder.com), Craigslist (www.craigslist.org), Monster (www.monster.com), and Yahoo! HotJobs (hotjobs.yahoo.com) from April 1, 2006 to March 31, 2007. The 310 CareerBuilder advertisements brought a ratio of 82 job seekers per ad, with 341 Craigslist.org ads bringing in a ratio of 45 job seekers per advertisement. The 150 Monster.com advertisements brought a ratio of 4 job seekers per ad, and the 70 Yahoo! HotJobs advertisements brought a ratio of 2 job seekers per ad. Data tables are available upon an email request to info@new-hire.com.
In response to these findings, New Office is making new advertising recommendations to its clients. ìMonster.com recently raised its published price [for a basic online job advertisement] to $475,î said Smith. ìAccording to the data in this study, our clients were paying an average $67.86 per applicant on Monster.com, compared to an average of $5.11 per applicant on CareerBuilder and zero dollars per applicant on Craigslist. Naturally, weíre advising our clients to start spending their job advertising dollars on a CareerBuilder ad [which is currently $419.00] and also to post on Craigslist.î
