Development Beyond Learning, in partnership with Glencore, Wins Bronze!

Development Beyond Learning (DBL thereafter), a global leader in innovative early talent learning and development programmes won a coveted Brandon Hall Group™ Bronze award for excellence in the Best Results of a Learning Program category.

The entry for the award was submitted by Glencore Coal Assets Australia (Glencore thereafter) which outlined the partnership with DBL since 2011 to reimagine, design, deliver and continuously improve the Glencore New Leaders Graduate Development Programme.

“Our innovative approach to Glencore’s comprehensive graduate programme, lasting 18 months, meets the corporation’s high growth business needs and we have been delivering the programme with successful results for the last 13 years,” said Pete Humphreys, CEO of DBL.

“Remaining both cutting-edge and best practice for future generations of Glencore graduates, our programme addresses the gap between academic education and modern workplace needs, ensuring their emerging talent are prepared for both today and the future.”

The programme was created with four key objectives supporting Glencore's mission to enable tomorrow's leaders who will anticipate, understand and add value to the future:

  • Support future leaders to be resilient, committed and empowered.
  • Support the company's desire to increase graduate employment for business growth.
  • Enhance managers’ roles and aspirations.
  • Improve talent retention.

“Our graduate programme is a key pipeline of future talent into our business. Former graduates now manage key functional, technical and operational areas of our business and lead teams and sites which leverage the leadership skills developed in the formative years of their career as a Glencore Graduate,” said Michelle Montgomery, HR Manager, Glencore.

“Having DBL shape our New Leaders Graduate Development Programme has supported our business goals. Their unique methodology focuses on changing behaviours through Engagement Dynamics, placing the onus on contextual learning whilst working,” said Michelle Montgomery, HR Manager, Glencore.

Over 800 Glencore graduates have benefited from the programme since 2011 with feedback on quality of training workshop content up by 5 per cent among the 2023 cohort (91 per cent). Glencore's retention averaged 83 per cent compared to the Australian Mining industry average at 69 per cent.
