Diverse appeal - independant survey reveals that Totaljobs leads the way

With the recent introduction of the Disability Discrimination Act and the Employment Directive on Equal Treatment arriving in 2006, workforce diversity is becoming increasingly business critical

With the recent introduction of the Disability Discrimination Act and the Employment Directive on Equal Treatment arriving in 2006, workforce diversity is becoming increasingly business critical. In light of this, totaljobs.com today became the first recruitment website to release the results of an independent survey into the diversity of its audience.

ABC ELECTRONIC independently audited the volume of response to the survey. The results reveal that totaljobs.com reflects the gender diversity of the UK population as measured by the Census. When it comes to ethnicity, totaljobs.com caters for a variety of ethnic minorities and attracts a more ethnically diverse audience than the UK population as a whole. This is especially apparent with regards to the Asian and Black communities where eight per cent of the totaljobs.com audience is Asian and six per cent are Black. These figures are more than double the percentage of people from these communities in the UK population.

Attracting and catering for disabled jobseekers is key for totaljobs.com. And with the changes to the Disability Discrimination Act, accessibility should be high on the agenda for all companies. Totaljobs.com’s site is accessible to disabled candidates and its audience is representative of the UK disabled workforce. While there are six per cent of jobseekers in the UK with disabilities who are able and willing to work (Disability Rights Commissions), eight per cent of totaljobs.com’s audience has a disability.

Totaljobs.com has always believed in offering employment opportunities for all. It encourages all employers who register with the site to adopt an inclusive approach to recruitment - this means they recruit with only the best person for the job in mind. This is extended to disabled jobseekers, who seem to be abandoning niche or specialist sites and are using the mainstream sites to look for work.

Rob Perkins, founder and managing director at totaljobs.com, says: This research proves that totaljobs.com’s job seeking audience truly reflects the rich diversity of the UK workforce as a whole.

At totaljobs.com we pride ourselves on offering an ’inclusive’ recruitment website which appeals to and caters for people of all backgrounds. We are proud to share our survey results as this is good news for jobseekers and employers alike - UK employers can now tap into the online job seeking audience to ensure a truly representative workforce and the best candidate gets the job based on their skills and qualifications.
