Dixons adopts online HR system

by Daniel Thomas

Employees at Dixons will soon be able to access records and personnel services via their home PCs, digital TVs and mobile devices, after the electronics retailer revealed plans to implement a new Web-based human resources system.

The company, which owns Dixons, Currys, PC World and The Link, is rolling out Peoplesoft 8 human resources management system and global payroll software to its 1,100 stores, which employ 30,000 staff.

Dixons looked at how the HR function, managers and employees spent their time, how they were recruited, managed, rewarded and developed. We needed HR processes and systems that would contribute to our business success and goals in the coming years by helping us to get the most out of our employees, said James Welsh, head of employee reward. As part of that strategy, we decided our existing HR systems needed a complete overhaul.

The group''s existing systems were expensive and time-consuming to maintain, often requiring the same data to be manually entered several times, he said.

The Peoplesoft software will operate a single set of employee procedures across the business, improving HR efficiency and supporting planned expansion into Europe, said Welsh.
