Basingstoke recruitment consultant Emma BedfordPatel has achieved a memorable double in becoming the UKís top recruiter through the 2008 Individual Membership Recruitment Awards organised by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), the trade body for the UKís private recruitment industry.
Emma, who works for Tateís Basingstoke branch in Wote Street, was not only crowned Permanent Recruiter of the Year in the awards, but also took the overall top title of Recruiter of the Year beating seven other contenders for the crown and winning herself a trip for two to Monte Carlo in the process.
Seconded in her nomination by Tate regional manager Sarah Annison, Emma was originally a flight attendant with two major airlines. But she switched to recruitment in 2004 then joined Tate in 2006 as a permanent consultant and was promoted to billing team leader in March this year.
In her submission, Emma said the location in which she worked has become saturated with agencies. To counter this, she developed a reputation for her branch and for herself among local employers resulting in her creating a loyal client and candidate base.
Her numerous successes have included coaching the chief executive officer of a charity who was looking to recruit a personal assistant. He had limited interviewing experience so did not want to make a mistake.
Emma took him through competency-based techniques, devised a score-based assessment system and sat in on the subsequent interviews. As a result, his final selection turned out to be a great success.
Emma Morley, manager of Tate in Basingstoke said of her: ìEmmaís consultative approach and equal focus on clients and candidates has enabled the branch to go from strength to strength, overachieving on budget and gaining further year on year growth.
ìHer skill, passion and results make her an ideal role model within the organisation to such a degree that she leads our National Perms Workshop, offering training and coaching to new and underperforming permanent consultants.î
Emma was presented with her prizes by Angela Masters, the RECís Chair of the Board of Directors. As well as the trip to Monte Carlo, she also received a trophy and certificate at a ceremony held at the Haymarket Hotel in London on Thursday December 4.
This is the second year the REC has staged the Individual Membership Recruitment Awards and again, there has been a tremendous response with nominations across all the categories.
Anita Holbrow, the RECís Director of Marketing, said: ìThese awards have already become a key event in the recruitment calendar and again, we are delighted to have had so many high quality entries which always make the final judging difficult.
ìEmma is a really worthy winner, demonstrating her credentials as the consummate recruitment professional who is prepared to go that extra distance to ensure that both her clients and candidates receive exemplary service. Her achievements to date are testament to the high standards REC members deliver across this industry.î
