Annual Talent Management, Recruitment and Retention Conference 2007, Olympia, London, 19-21 June 2007
Research shows engaged employees perform better than others and are less likely to quit. But according to research from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) only 35% of employees are actually engaged with their work.
On 21 June, Tim Miller, Director, People, Property and Assurance, Standard Chartered Bank and Alan Swann, Director of Human Resources, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council will discuss how they have successfully placed employee engagement at the heart of their business. They will be speaking at this yearís CIPD Annual Talent Management, Recruitment and Retention Conference 2007.
Also speaking at the event is Emma Soane, Reader in Occupational Psychology, Kingston University and co-author of the CIPD Working Life: Employee Attitudes and Engagement 2006 report. The three speakers will discuss:
- Key drivers of employee engagement.
- Measuring engagement.
- Supporting line managers in delivering engagement objectives.
Mike Emmott CIPD Employee Relations Adviser says: ìOur recent research clearly shows how much management practice affects peopleís attitudes towards their work. With only three in ten employees engaged, many managers evidently arenít doing enough to keep their staff interested. This session will demonstrate in a practical way how engagement delivers business value and what organisations are doing to drive up levels of engagement among the workforce.î
Alan Swann, Director of Human Resources, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, adds: ìOver the last three years, Rotherham Council has put employee engagement at the centre of its improvement agenda. By constantly seeking, listening and acting on employee's views we have seen significant improvements in employee morale and dramatic reductions in turnover and levels of sickness absence. In March 2007 we were awarded the Most Improved Council Award and we believe that much of our improvement results from our engagement agenda.
