Around 144.4 million Europeans logged onto the Internet at least once a month during 2001, reports eMarketer.
This is according to data from the International Telecommunication Union(ITU), which reveals that four of the regionís countries, Germany, the UK, Italy, and France, comprise 63 percent of Europeís Internet users.
Germany has the highest population of Internet users with 30 million people online. The UK has 24 million users online; Italy has 16 million, while France has 15.7 million.
eMarketer predicts that the total number of European Internet users is likely to reach 221 million by 2004.
Germany is likely to account for one in five Internet users in Europe by 2004, however, Eastern European countries are expected to seriously lag behind Western European countries.
