Following the recent news concerning TV personalities leaving their presenting roles amid rumours of ageism, we would like to offer comment from Monster.co.uk, on employing a diverse workforce.
The UK introduced national legislation prohibiting discrimination on the grounds of age on 1 October 2006, in line with the EUís Equal Treatment Framework Directive. Many organisations, large and small, also have various anti-ageism corporate policies and initiatives. However, are these really being followed? Are they a smokescreen when companies really want to employ younger, fresher talent?
A recent Monster.co.uk poll asked workers whether their companies employ a diverse workforce. It found that only 38% of workers believe that their companies do and that workforce diversity is a top priority for them.
