Intelligent search system - 01/2001

-

More and more people frequently use the Internet for their job-search as well as recruitment of staff and have long realised the advantages of this online tool. Yet, online recruiting can often lack efficiency. DV-Job, subsidiary enterprise of StepStone (www.stepstone.de), has therefore invented a search system called Smart Recherche.

Until now, it was only possible to look for candidates in the database through a fixed Q&A system. Only those applicants fulfilling all criteria were matched by the computer and could therefore be found. This will change with the new fuzzy search: It also considers those applicants who fulfil most of the requirements even though they don't match 100 per cent. This way, the system can find the IT-specialist who meets all expectations, except that he only has 4 years work experience instead of the desired 5 years. It can also find the person with good instead of excellent language skills who is otherwise optimally qualified for the job. The HR-manager can decide himself if these applicants are interesting and how important their skills are to him.

The new, intelligent dialogue-system considers all individual needs and requirements: it asks all questions which are relevant for the HR-department. If they are looking for a programmer, the system will ask directly for the applicants qualifications in computer programming and not for his language skills. Every answer changes the whole ranking list - the top position will always be occupied by the best suited applicant. All results can be saved and recalled at any time.

This unfocussed search enables the definition of individual requirements and priorities and therefore leads to optimal results for every HR-manager. The system shows all applicants along with their strengths and weaknesses in one list and automatically ranks them.

From 1st December 2000 the Smart Recherche can be found under www.dv-job.de. It will be adopted by StepStone as soon as the integration process of both job-boards is finished, in the first quarter of 2001.
