International Women’s Day

With International Women’s Day fast approaching on Tuesday 8th March, a topic that remains top of the agenda for many discussions taking place is the equality of women in the workplace. It has been predicted by the World Economic Forum that it will take another 80 years for the global gender gap to close, meaning there’s potential for women to miss out on an entire lifetime of opportunities.

As the technology sector continues to face scrutiny over its lack of gender diversity, the latest stats highlight that only 17% of tech and telco workers in the UK are female.

Monster UK have taken steps to address this shortcoming by joining up with key industry figures to launch the Tech Talent Charter, which aims to encourage businesses to sign up to a set of key measures to increase the number of female employees within their organisations.

The call to action is a pledge for a benchmark for the technology industry – signatories will have to agree to share and publish the diversity profile of UK employees and any other work on equality, diversity and inclusion. Businesses who sign up must commit to best practice in recruitment by implementing the ‘Rooney Rule’ which states -where available, they must interview at least one female candidate as part of the recruitment process.
