IT professionals should not be disheartened - 05/2001

Tom Smith, director at Networking People, global IT Search Consultancy

Aprilís Report on Jobs indicates that although skills in short supply remain within the IT sector the rate of growth of demand for permanent IT staff has fallen to a series low.

ìDespite this more modest climate we at Networking People still have a really strong flow of new vacancies coming through. There are a handful of US corporate clients with temporary headcount restrictions but we have certainly not experienced a slow down in demand from the majority of our clients.î

ìThe reason for this is our focus on emerging technology and entrepreneurial progressive clients. We operate in the hottest technical sectors where the clients have constant demand for the right skills and experience; those clients are continuing to invest in the market.î

ìWe certainly have no cause for concern and believe IT professionals should not be disheartened since we have new job opportunities arising everyday.î

Additional comment available from specialist city/financial recruiter, Executive Connections (CEO David Hughes) in respect to general slow down in growth for permanent positions. NTC findings reflected in Executive Connections own niche where many City institutions have a block on recruitment until after General Election. Concerns prevail as to world economic climate - following patterns in USA. Legislative programme also being seen to strangle employment across SME sector.

White and Nunn - pan European - providing recruitment solutions in Telecoms. Comment available across volatility of market - the fact that the industry is seeing massive cut backs - realignment to realistic level of value. Resource being cut at bottom end - whereas demand staying static at top end across management. Skills still desperately sort after. Whilst 3G technology slowed down - it will happen - telecoms will still be growth market after medium term realignment.
