A new study conducted by InfoCom Research indicates that 86 percent of households in Japan will be online in 2005.

This is an increase of 47 percent on the figure for 2001, when an estimated 49 percent of households had access to the Internet.

The number of households with broadband Internet connectivity is expected to soar dramatically over the next few years to reach 32 million by 2005.

At the end of 2001, just eight percent of Japanese households (or 3.9 million users) could connect to the Internet via broadband, however this is expected to reach 66 percent by 2005.
