Jobserve is celebrating, what it claims to be a world first today with the launch of its Instant Job Alerts service, which uses ëText to Voiceí technology to overcome the limitations of mobile phone text messages.
The new service harnesses SMS text messaging technology and combines it with cutting edge computer voice software to help candidates receive the details they need without the constraints of text messaging. Unlike any other SMS alerting system, which is restricted to just 160 characters, the Jobserve system gives jobseekers the full details of the job, no matter how much information there is.
Subscribers to the service receive a brief text message with a telephone number and an individual job identification number. When they call the number and key in the unique job ID, Jobserveís computers locate the job and read out the full job description, including salary, location and the contact name and telephone number of the advertiser.
MD Robbie Cowling, whose Essex-based company was the first in the world back in 1994 to send out job details by email, believes that that yet again Jobserve is leading the way in taking online recruitment to a new dimension.
The service is essentially simple. Subscribers select the types of jobs they would like to receive details of. These can be filtered as much or as little as they require, ensuring they donít receive unwanted information. Immediately a job fitting the subscriberís details is advertised on the site, he or she receives a text message with a number to call and the relevant job ID number.
Robbie explained: ìUp until now, Jobserve has held back on offering alerts to mobile phones because of the 160 character restriction. We were aware that job seekers were desperate to be alerted but with so few characters the information that we could send would be more misleading than it would be helpful. Being restricted on what we could say about a job was frustrating for candidates and us. Our Instant Job Alert service is practically instantaneous and will ensure that Jobserve candidates really are ahead of the game when theyíre looking for a job. Ultimately if they canít or donít want to access the information from a computer, but do have a mobile telephone, they will have comprehensive information at their fingertips no matter where they are in the world within seconds of that job being posted on our site.î
And he added: ìThis service takes the whole text messaging concept into a new era. We have invested a great deal of time and money in getting the service right, and have been careful to ensure that this is not just a gimmick, but a fantastic value for money service that will bring benefits to everyone in the job-seeking chain. We hope that this launch will inspire others to believe that even in a down time for the industry, it is possible to be creative and innovative. I believe that this is precisely the time when we should be working even harder to provide what our customers want and need.î
Calls cost just 10p a minute and the average job details take less than 2 minutes to transmit. Text messages will be charged at 20p each or alternatively the job seeker can opt for a fixed budget in advance for a set number of jobs. Either way they stay in control with the ability to restrict the number of text messages received each day. Alternatively, Jobserve provide Instant Job Alerts to email addresses, which are completely free of charge.
