As economists predict unemployment is likely to hit 3million this year, more and more workers are growing increasingly concerned over the security of their jobs.

According to a poll of 5,000 workers by Jobsite.co.uk, one of the countryís leading online recruiters, one in five workers (19 per cent) – 5.6 million people – are concerned about being made redundant from their current position.1

This knocked confidence is affecting workers in very different ways. A worry over a ìlast-in, first-outî approach from employers has left one in 10 (12 per cent) reluctant to move jobs, while one in six (16 per cent) are taking the opposite view and looking to jump ship before they are pushed.

However, one in five workers (18 per cent) are still confident about the jobs market, with one in 14 (seven per cent) claiming to be very confident. London (36 per cent of workers confident), Scotland (29 per cent) and the East of England (26 per cent) are the most positive about their employment prospects.

Keith Potts, CEO of Jobsite.co.uk, said: ìAlthough many people are worried about their current employment prospects, others are actually feeling confident. This reflects the jobs market as we see it. The picture is not uniformly bleak: although some sectors have been hit hard, weíre still seeing employers in other sectors actively looking to take on staff.
