David Hurst calls for an Online Recruitment Marketing Council

I was interviewed recently by CNBC for a programme on how the Internet has changed our lives. Recruitment was identified by the programme makers as one area of our lives changed by the Internet, and how right they are.

It did take me back a couple of years when I was asked the question: ìWhy is online recruitment good for companiesî? I have just come back from the CIPD where my conversations have been based around the strategy of online recruiters, partnerships, deals, liquidations, technology and launches.

Itís all too easy to be so close to the cutting edge of development and technology, to forget that there is still a huge marketing job to be done on Corporate UK Ltd, and just as importantly, jobseekers, to remind or inform them for the first time of the benefits of online recruitment.

Itís with this in mind that I have a suggestion for the online recruitment trade. I believe we need an Online Recruitment Marketing Council. The only requirement for membership is that you must be a principle in a business that is involved in online recruitment, and have a vested interest in the success of online recruiting.

There is a marketing job to be done to educate employers and jobseekers on the best way to recruit and find a job.

I mentioned the idea of a marketing council twelve months ago and it met with positive responses from both recruitment sites as well as suppliers. Now is the time to develop it further.

If you would like to become involved in the Online Recruitment Marketing Council, please let me know. I propose the first meeting to be held before Christmas, with the objective of forming a committee and electing a chairman. I will arrange a suitable venue once I get an idea of numbers.
