The Universities of Coventry and Warwick have joined forces to produce an innovative resource pack designed to support managers in dealing effectively with equality and diversity issues in Higher Education. The project, Meeting the Challenge: Managing Equality and Diversity in Higher Education, received 98k funding from HEFCE (Higher Education Funding Council of England) and offers support in dealing with issues such as bullying and harassment and unequal pay.
The pack includes a film, together with a set of notes for trainers. The film is provided in various formats (including VHS, CD and a sub-titled version) and includes an introduction and seven scenes which focus on
specific aspects of inequality and diversity, including gender pay gaps, fair interviewing, dignity at work, disability and 'race' awareness.
Dr Ross, a Reader in Mass Communication and Director of the Centre for Communication, Culture and Media Studies at Coventry University stated: 'We are very pleased that HEFCE have placed such value on equal opportunities and we believe that this training tool will be genuinely useful to the sector as a whole.'
All HEIs in England will be provided with one copy of the resource pack free of charge. Additional copies may be purchased from the project team. Please contact the project leader, Dr Karen Ross, for further information: 024 7688 7433 or email k.ross@coventry.ac.uk.
