There are small but significant signs that a recovery may be just around the corner in the IT recruitment space, according to skills assessment software vendor, TeckChek.
Richard Newton, managing director, stated ìWe are seeing a very definite increase in demand for our skills assessment software solutions coming from the SME sector. We believe the rapid uptake in our products and services over the last month is due to organisations wanting to assess the skills of candidates as they move to recruit new staff.î
ìIn the past, weíve found smaller companies rebounded faster following a period of slow growth or even recession, and the increased use of IT tests within the SME sector since the new year is certainly a promising indication for IT recruitment as a whole. Itís generally recognised that the powerhouse of the UK economy is the SME so if this sector shows signs of rebounding it is possible we have hit the bottom of the economic cycle already,î he added.
Despite early indications, there is no doubt downsizing, restructuring and staff realignments will continue in the short-term. But, according to Richard Newton, companies should increase their focus on strategic staffing and improved utilisation of existing human resources until recruitment becomes a feasible and beneficial option.
