Telegraph Media Group (TMG) has partnered with BAE Systems for a series of discussions about the future of British engineering skills.
The commercial partnership, initially focusing on the question of whether the UK is on track to fill the engineering skills gap by 2020, will launch with a report published in the Business section of The Daily Telegraph on Thursday, 14th March following a roundtable event discussing this question. The report also coincides with National Science and Engineering Week.
The partnership will include a series of roundtable discussions and following each of these events, TMG, in association with BAE Systems, will publish a report based upon their findings in The Daily Telegraph.
Delegates participating in the initial roundtable discussion chaired by TMG, included representatives from BAE Systems, Siemens, JaguarLandRover, The Engineering Employers Federation, EngineeringUK, SEMTA, National Apprenticeship Service, Royal Academy of Engineering and the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering. The event was also attended by Matthew Hancock MP, Minister for Skills from the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills.
James Lancaster, Director of Specialist Sales, TMG, said: “This commercial partnership with BAE Systems has allowed the Telegraph to show its continued commitment to key industries, such as engineering. TMG’s ability to build strong integrated relationships with companies such as BAE Systems is one that goes from strength to strength.”
Kate Watcham, Head of Media - UK, BAE Systems, said: “Alongside other engineering companies, BAE Systems and its 7,500 suppliers in the UK are reliant on a pipeline of engineering talent and we currently face a serious skills shortage. With its consistent support for British industry, The Telegraph was a natural partner for us in hosting roundtables to discuss the important issues.”
The report will be published in the Business section of The Daily Telegraph on Thursday, 14th March and will also be able to be viewed online on The Telegraph.
