Coronavirus: online recruitment portal for hospitality sector goes live

A FREE online recruitment portal for hospitality and tourism sector staff out of work as a result of the COVID-19 crisis is now live.

HospitalityUnite is backed by the Scottish Tourism Alliance (STA) and UK Hospitality and will help out-of-work members of the trade to find work in other sectors, including food retail and supply, healthcare and delivery services. Video-screening will be used to assist with the recruitment process.

Companies such as LidlAmazonPlanet OrganicJust EatCo-opWaitroseCare UKMorrisons and Balhousie Care Group have already agreed to use the portal to advertise vacancies.

The online portal can only be accessed by the tourism and hospitality community through permission granted by hospitality software company, Harri, which created the website. To request access contact HospitalityUnite@Harri.com.

Marc Crothall, chief executive of the STA said: “While hospitality and tourism has received vital support from both the Scottish and UK Governments, the sector is also playing its part in trying to mitigate the hardship that so many of our people have suffered at this time and will suffer in the weeks and months to come, and at the same time help those parts of the economy that now need extra labour to keep the country running.”

Pete Willis, director at Harri, the hospitality software business which created the portal, said: “Right now we have 4000 vacancies at Amazon and 2500 vacancies with Lidl ready to go onto the website.

“During the current emergency, any hospitality operator will be able to sign up for free resources and courses. These will be available for all hospitality employees on the topics of mental health and well-being, in conjunction with Upskill People and the MIND charity. In the future, the HospitalityUnite site will importantly become a resource to attract people back to the sector.”
