Two thirds of employees want to be more proactive about their health, according to new research – with more than half (56 per cent) of UK workers now more likely to accept a job with an employer who actively supports their long-term health.
An independent study of 1,200 UK workers1, commissioned by healthcare company, Elevate, found that 67 per cent wanted to take proactive steps to help prevent illness rather than just reacting to symptoms.
The findings are released ahead of the launch of a new kind of preventative health membership in the UK, designed for companies seeking an advanced healthcare benefit for their team. Elevate’s proactive health programme and full body scan provide employees with a new level of health insight and support - bringing together clinical expertise, advanced medical tech and genetic analysis.
It follows rising demand for preventative healthcare services, and employers seeking new ways to attract, retrain and support their team - particularly those facing immense talent acquisition competition, such as the tech and finance sectors.
Dr Nitin Shori, Elevate’s chief medical officer and co-founder, who has been an NHS GP for two decades, said: “There’s a huge shift towards preventative healthcare happening, and employee health checks are entering a new, advanced era. It’s a new space in the employee benefits market – going beyond the often-underutilised annual health check and typical healthcare provision.
“More than 140 million working days are lost per year in the UK due to health-related absence. Busy schedules, poor sleep, and high stress can all take their toll. By understanding current health and future risks, employees can take better control of their own health trajectory, with a combination of lifestyle changes, clinical expertise and tech.”
The research also found that a third of workers (31 per cent) suspect they are at increased risk of a health condition but haven’t had it checked.
Dr Shori added: “It’s now possible to access unprecedented levels of data about your body – but understanding this new level of insight and responding to it, is crucial. For example, 80% of premature deaths from cardiovascular disease, such heart attacks and strokes, are preventable if addressed at an early stage.”
Elevate is part of Get Scanned - one of the UK’s largest private scan providers and has a national network of doctors who provide flexible care - at home, at work or via the Elevate app. Its programme has been designed to fit around the needs of busy senior executives and has received interest from corporates seeking a new type of healthcare benefit.
The membership has been developed to provide the most comprehensive full body health assessment in the UK, with insights and unique risk scores for 18 body systems, more than 500 unique data points collected, and the ability to detect signs of 500+ conditions. Elevate incorporates an AI-supported full body MRI scan, advanced blood profiling and polygenic risk analysis. It is being provided through corporate partnerships for employees, as well as direct to individual members.
1 Independent research was commissioned by Elevate in January 2025 and conducted by Opinium research from 07.01.25-10.01.25. Opinium surveyed 2,000 UK Adults (18+) and findings specific to UK workers are based on 1210 respondents. Results are weighted to be nationally representative where relevant.
