What is programmatic recruitment advertising?
Onrec Explains · Recruitment & HR guides
Programmatic recruitment advertising uses software and performance data to manage where job adverts appear and how advertising budget is allocated. The aim is to reach suitable candidates while responding to what campaigns are delivering.
How does it work?
A platform distributes adverts across available channels and adjusts activity using agreed rules or optimisation models. Buying models vary: charges may relate to clicks, applications or other agreed outcomes. Confirm the commercial model for each proposal.
Look beyond application volume
A low cost per application is not enough if applicants are unsuitable or abandon later stages. Connect advertising measures with completed applications, qualified candidates and hires where reliable data is available.
Questions to ask suppliers
- Which channels can you access and exclude?
- How do you define and measure a qualified application?
- What budget controls and reporting can our team see?
- How are duplicate applications and source attribution handled?
- What happens when a vacancy closes or reaches its application target?
Run a useful pilot
Choose a defined group of vacancies, set a budget and record the starting results. Keep job content and application steps under review: advertising cannot compensate for an unclear role or an unnecessarily difficult application process. Compare outcomes for similar vacancies before expanding the programme.
