Work - Satisfaction guaranteed?

.

Itís a question that weíve all asked ourselves, ëWould you give up work if you won the lottery?í If you love your job and the answerís no then you may actually be surprised to discover that youíre a dying breed - as the fact
remains that itís money that weíre all after - according to research carried out by GoJobsite.co.uk

GoJobsiteís research showed that over one in five of us (21%) believe that our salary gives us the greatest job satisfaction. Given the choice of palm trees, yacht and Caribbean condo or the daily commute and office routine -
most of us would jump at the chance to leave it all behind.

But keeping the bank manager sweet isnít the only reason that we go to work.
A job can be fun, it should be a challenge and should provide satisfaction - itís what most of us spend most of our time doing, week-in, week-out.

Of the 300 job seekers polled on GoJobsite.co.uk during July 2002, 20% revealed that behind salary it is the environment in which we work which is the most important route to job satisfaction. 18% cited that job
satisfaction results from being set challenges that stretch them to the limit, closely followed by career progression (15%), interaction with colleagues (12%), availability of training (8%), and last but not least fun (6%).

So are we a nation that refuses to enjoy ourselves in the workplace? Jackie Jones, GoJobsiteís HR manager, sheds some light: ìThe majority of people work purely to earn the money that helps them pay the bills and make ends
meet - itís to be expected!

ìMore and more people are battling for the positions that pay the best for their skills and experience, but there are still people out there that are willing to compromise and settle for somewhere that they feel comfortable
working for, that challenges them and that offers the right routes for progression.î

We spend such a significant proportion of our lives at work so itís natural that we want to be in comfortable, pleasant surroundings - but one thing is clear, that employers must factor in that itís not one thing that brings us
job satisfaction, itís a combination of factors that ensure a harmonious balance.
