IT Job market shows signs of recovery for second successive quarter<br>

CWJobs/SSP Survey Highlights Variations in UK Regional IT Vacancies

The IT jobs market in the UK is continuing to show signs of recovery according to the latest statistics in the UK Quarterly Regional IT Skills Index from SSP (Salary Survey Publications Ltd) and CWJobs, the online IT recruitment specialists. In the period from July to September 2002, IT job vacancies in the UK fell by 21% - the lowest fall since the slowdown began over eighteen months ago. This compares to a fall of 28% in the period from April to June 2002.

South East England continues to show signs of recovery with smallest drop in IT vacancies in 18 months

North West still suffering more than most, but vacancies fall only half the amount of the previous quarter

Highest rate of regional decline now down to 28%, from 45% in Q2

West and Wales and East Midlands record smallest falls in IT vacancies

West Midlands hit worst over last 12 months with job vacancies having fallen by 75% since Q3 2001





The CWJobs/SSP quarterly ''Survey of Appointments Data & Trends'' is based on data taken from all the jobs advertised in the UK''s leading IT and multi-sector recruitment web sites, together with jobs advertised in IT business magazines, as well as national & selected regional press. The survey provides the most comprehensive picture available of regional differences in IT vacancies throughout the UK. These sources provide information on up to 300,000 jobs each quarter. The survey does not include vacancies for contract, sales or overseas-based positions.
