new recruits sought by construction industry bconstructive.co.uk launched to highlight benefits and range of careers in construction -

The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) today launched a new website www.bconstructive.co.uk to support its Positive Image recruitment campaign which aims to attract more young people into the construction industry. Some 380,000 people need to be recruited into the industry by December 2006 (76,000 each year) to meet current growth targets and replace those leaving the industry.

www.bconstructive.co.uk features real people who work in construction and gathers together knowledge from a range of industry sources into one easy to navigate portal. It provides young people with access to information, case studies and guidance on the range of jobs and routes into the industry.

Key elements of the site include:
Online careers information - interactive careers advice for anyone considering a career in the construction industry. It includes:
o A snap shot view of jobs such as architecture, carpentry, civil engineering, or interior painting and decorating.
o What''s right for U? an interactive careers quiz designed to match site users with a relevant construction career option.
o Information on the qualifications required for jobs in the industry and how to go about getting them.

Life Onsite - Site users can read diaries from young people working in a range of construction careers. It details their daily activities and how they got started in construction. The Construction Galleries feature also highlights current cutting edge construction projects across the UK.

FAQs - Frequently asked questions such as Do I get paid for my training? are answered here and more specific questions can be answered via links to local CITB offices (through an interactive map) or an email response option.

News - This section flashes up current information on Positive Image and features endorsements from Positive Image supporters such as Wayne Hemingway and Michelle Ryan (Zoe from Eastenders).

Visitor Polls - Regular polls are run on the website offering site users the chance to vote on their favourite British construction project such as The Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh or The Eden Project in Cornwall.

Prize draw - All registered visitors are put into a free prize draw, to win HMV vouchers.

Quicklinks - Links to other useful websites such as www.designajob.co.uk and www.workexperience.co.uk are also provided.

Games - There is also a fun section of the site to give visitors the chance to try their hand at games such as Krazy Kranes or download screensavers.

www.bconstructive.co.uk supports a national print, radio, ambient and online advertising and promotional campaign for Positive Image that aims to challenge the perceptions many young people, in particular 14 - 19 year olds, have of the construction industry.

Fiona Kane, CITB''s Head of Communications commented, Positive Image is a campaign designed to help young people understand modern construction and the wide variety of career options available to them. There have been some great advances in construction over the last couple of years and www.bconstructive.co.uk is a great way to communicate some of those changes and attract more quality young people into the industry by providing them with the information they need in a user-friendly format. The website helps us showcase just some of the young people who are already doing great things in construction who can act as role models for the next generation of construction workers.
