Following a ’road-show’ of regional and London seminars in the South East, the final event culminated in London with over 100 key clients attending. The seminars provided advice on key issues and changes to legislation on topics such as discrimination, monitoring of employees, unfair dismissals and disciplinary and grievance procedures.
Lanny Silverstone of CKFT, Employment Law specialist and speaker at the events explains There is extensive new guidance from the government on monitoring employees and best practice could bring benefits to employers. There are sexual orientation discrimination rules coming into force in December 2003 and age discrimination rules at some point before the end of 2006.

Judges love paper says Lanny. Whenever a client first contacts me about a potential problem, I always have to say, ’Start a paper-trail’ - keep accurate notes and remember that the letter you’re writing now might be read by a judge deciding your case in many months time.
Iain Roden, Employment Partner, adds, The statutory disciplinary and grievance procedures have been twice delayed, but are now almost certain to be brought in by October 2004. The Inland Revenue is tightening its grasp on tax and national insurance on payments in lieu of notice.
Jane Atherton, Director, Huntress comments, There is much legislation for companies to keep abreast of and comply with. Part of Huntress’ philosophy is to offer HR Managers the option to attend these seminars to keep themselves up to date. Attendees also receive a comprehensive set of detailed reference notes with explanations and advice on each of the covered topics. Huntress will be holding the next series of events early next year.
Huntress raised 750 for Cancer Research by asking each of its clients to contribute a 5 donation to the charity.
