The group introduced the programme last year, with nine apprentices taking up full-time roles last autumn. Now the Seaham-based company has embarked on a mission to extend the scheme and recruit ten more.
The move is part of a wider aim to grow the brand nationally and double headcount at GAS in the next 18 months.
Each apprentice will embark on a three-year programme in a variety of disciplines including IT, marketing, business administration, compliance, customer service, energy management, facilities, sales administration and recruitment. They will gain a sound knowledge of all areas of the business, but will specialise in their chosen career.
Nathan Raine, a first-year apprentice who works in GAS’s HR department, said: “As apprentices we get to grow with the company and utilise our talents in ways that other companies maybe wouldn’t allow for. Our opinions are valued both on the office floor and in the boardroom.”
Judith Bennison, group HR director at Great Annual Savings Group, said: “We’ve extended our apprenticeship scheme after successfully trialling it over the last 12 months. Our scheme creates jobs for local people, provides the foundations for them to grow into their roles and gives them the chance to develop their career at a fast-growing company with ambitious growth plans.
“We pay almost double the rates of a normal apprenticeship program, but we do expect to get the best young people from the local catchment area.”
GAS helps businesses reduce their running costs and save money in a range of areas including energy procurement, energy and water cost management, fire safety, telecoms and insurance. The company is one of several North East firms to have launched an apprenticeship scheme, along with Sunderland automotive giant Nissan and Eaglescliffe car parts maker Nifco UK.
The scheme is being delivered in conjunction with expert training provider Apprenticeships 4 U, who are handling applications.
To apply to be considered for the scheme, you should have A to C grades in at least English and Maths at GCSE and simply email your CV to nathan@apprenticeships4-u.com.
