Follow Your Wife's Dream takes a look at the changing world of expatriate spouses. What was once the domain of woman is changing, with more men following their wife to live abroad.
Last year, 13% of expatriate employees were women, according to a study of 154 companies, mostly American, by GMAC Global Relocation Services in Liberty Corner, N.J. That figure could rise to 21% by 2005, the firms predicted, as more women climb the corporate ladder.
While there are no statistics on male trailing spouses, the survey suggests their ranks are growing. Married women accounted for 10% of female expatriate employees last year, up from 5% in 1999.
