New research from NetValue reveals that Germany still has the highest number of Internet users in Europe.
At the end of April, 17.4 million Germans went online, a rise of 1.1 million on the preceding month.
This compares to 15.8 million people in the UK who went online in April, 11.5 million in France, and 7.8 million in Italy.
Men continue to outnumber women online in all of the European countries studied by NetValue.
The sexual divide is particularly noticeable in Spain where 63.9 percent of Internet users online in April were male.
The study indicates that the Germans and Spanish spent the most days online during April, with Internet users in both countries connecting on average 11.5 days per month.
This compares with 11.4 days for Denmark, 11.1 days for France and 10.3 days for the UK.
