No summer holiday for Irish jobseekers

.

Monster.ie has just released their figures for the past 3 summer months: May, June and July. Monster.ieís independent monitoring system I/PRO recorded 722,500 unique visitors, a 31% increase on 2002 and 6,500,000 page impressions, a 25% increase on 2002.

With a reported one job lost every twenty minutes, and the recent announcement of the live register increased unemployment figures for July, the employment climate is certainly unstable for job seekers.

The current unemployment rate now stands at 4.8% compared with 4.2% in April 2002. Seasonal employment is thought to be one of the contributing factors with no take up in the renewal of summer jobs. Several companies have seen massive employment cuts in what were traditionally considered recession proof industries.
