Today’s employment figures show that the number of unemployed people in the UK rose by 12,000 over the quarter ending in September, with the unemployment rate staying unchanged at 5%. The underlying trend remains downward for both the jobless total and jobless rate, indicating growth in the economy. Monster’s October site figures show a rise in job vacancies in Local Government, Civil Service and Education, reflecting continued public sector spending. However, for the private sector the strongest growth has been in Legal and Insurance job posting categories, whilst Sales, Information Technology, and Administrative and Support Services remain consistently buoyant.
