Divide between deskless and office-based workers threatens company culture, reveals latest Perkbox Vivup report

With 71% of respondents currently reporting the relationship between deskless and office-based workers to be strong, the report finds that many mixed-workforce organisations are managing to foster a unified workplace culture – despite their decentralised workforce.

Perkbox Vivup, the global benefits, engagement and wellbeing platform, today releases its new report “Bridging the gap: creating parity between deskless and office-based workers” urging businesses with mixed workforces (i.e. those with both deskless and office-based workers) to bridge the experience gap, if they want to maintain a strong company culture.

With 71% of respondents currently reporting the relationship between deskless and office-based workers to be strong, the report finds that many mixed-workforce organisations are managing to foster a unified workplace culture – despite their decentralised workforce. What’s more, nearly three quarters (73%) view the overall company culture as strong too.

However, the report reveals that tensions are beginning to emerge between deskless workers and office-based employees, as the working world changes.

Perceived differences in levels of flexibility and recognition in the business are identified as key drivers of discontent, with just under two-thirds (65%) of respondents reporting that deskless workers enjoy greater flexibility than office-based employees. At the same time, three fifths (60%) think that office workers have greater status in the business.

The report urges organisations with mixed workforces not to become complacent, and instead invest in measures to mitigate the differences between workplace experiences.

Equal is not the same as “one size fits all”

Exploring mechanisms to deliver parity, the report underlines that a single, blanket approach to workplace satisfaction will not suffice.

Instead, given just over one in three (35%) respondents have access to choice and flexibility when it comes to company perks and benefits, it argues that the key to creating parity with mixed workforce is implementing technology-enabled solutions that acknowledge differing workplace experiences.

“In today's rapidly evolving work environment, fostering a unified and inclusive company culture is more critical than ever before. Our report underscores the importance of ensuring that both deskless and office-based employees feel equally valued and supported,” commented Perkbox Vivup’s CEO, Doug Butler.

“By leveraging technology and adopting tailored approaches to meet the diverse needs of our workforce, businesses can bridge gaps and enhance the overall employee experience. This commitment to fairness and flexibility is key to sustaining a strong, cohesive culture across all levels of an organisation."
