The festivities are all over, your waistline has expanded and it’s back to work in the coldest and darkest month of the year. Yes that first week back to work in January is officially the most depressing month of the year as a new survey highlights that over 50% of workforces suffer from the January office blues.

The survey of over 1000 people by online job board TipTopJob.com also revealed that a massive 80% of employees will also consider looking for a new job in January as a symptom of the unavoidable January blues.

“January is one of our busiest times of year when we get a sudden influx of both job hunters and employers recruiting for new positions following the Christmas recruitment wind down,” explains Corinne Hutchinson, Marketing Manager of TipTopJob.com. “Thousands of people feel unrest in their jobs in January and use the New Year as a motivating factor to make a positive change and start afresh.”

Over half of the survey respondents did report feeling more positive about the recession recovery in 2010 and the job market as a whole, despite unemployment still at its highest and unlikely to see substantial improvement until 2011.

Over 1 million job seekers have registered on TipTopJob.com and there are over 80,000 positions advertised from over 35 specific industries from fashion to engineering, science to legal.
