Joanne Hindle - Corporate Services Director of the UK’s leading disability insurer, UnumProvident - has been appointed non-executive Chairman of the charity Employment Opportunities for People with Disabilities (EOPD).
Formed in 1980 by 10 blue chip City of London employers, the EOPD has the sole aim of helping people with disabilities find employment.
During 2002 the organisation - which has a network of 16 offices throughout England, Scotland and Wales - helped 1,100 people with disabilities find or experience work and provided a further 2,000 people with disabilities support in their quest for employment. It has achieved this level of success for five years running.
During her time at UnumProvident Joanne has been heavily involved in lobbying for change to remove barriers which prevent people with disabilities finding and keeping work. Led by Joanne, the company founded the New Beginnings initiative which challenges society to return 250,000 people with disabilities to work by 2010.
Commenting on her appointment, Joanne said: I am delighted to take this role and to be given the opportunity to assist the EOPD to continue deliver high quality services to help people with disabilities who want to work achieve their aspirations.
EOPD Chief Executive, Hugh Stirk, added: Employment Opportunities is now a strong, leading charity which is poised for further growth. Joanne joins us at an exciting time in our development and all the staff are looking forward to responding to her leadership.
