With prosecutions by the Information Commissioners office up by 50% and new Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 just around the corner, Northamptonshire-based Develop & Deploy Strategy Limited and DPA Solutions have teamed up to launched a new series of Data Protection training courses. These courses range from half day Basic and one day Advanced courses to bespoke one and two day in-house courses for HR, Sales, Marketing, and other Customer-facing personnel, such as Customer Service Representatives.
Commenting on the new courses David Gurney, Managing Director of Develop & Deploy Strategy says, Our extensive involvement with Recruitment Companies has revealed that there is a real need for Data Protection training. There are still companies that havenít even realised that they need to ëNotifyí.
Notification is the process by which a data controller’s details are added to a public register of data controllers. Each register entry includes the name and address of the data controller and a general description of the processing of personal data by a data controller. Individuals can consult the register to find out what processing of personal data is being carried out by a particular data controller. The Data Protection Act 1998 requires every data controller who is processing personal data to notify unless they are exempt. Cost of Notification is just 35 and can be done on-line at http://www.dpr.gov.uk/notify .
Mr Gurney adds, We are currently working with the REC to help Recruiters in their efforts to remain compliant. Data Protection is a minefield, but with some good quality help and guidance we can go a long way towards making it less so.
The Data Protection Act 1998 protects personal privacy and upholds individualsí rights on how their information is and can be used. It generally applies to anyone who handles or has access to information about living individuals.
