WhatJobs Limited

Basic

WhatJobs is a global job search engine that aggregates job listings from thousands of sources to help job seekers find opportunities. The company also provides employers & Recrtuiers with targeted advertising solutions and a way to syndicate their job posts across a network of partner websites. The platform aims to make the job search process easier and faster for both job seekers and employers, and is free for job seekers to use.

The Inception

In the quaint setting of a flat above a bustling cafe in Slough, England, the vision for a new era of online recruitment was born. It was 2003 when Alexander Paterson conceived Check4Jobs.com, an innovative job search aggregator. This platform served as a beacon for UK recruitment consultancies, offering them a digital portal to showcase their job listings, a pioneering step away from high street recruitment norms.

Growth and Transformation

Through steadfast commitment and strategic growth, Check4Jobs evolved. Recognizing the changing tides of digital recruitment, Alexander embarked on a rebranding journey, transitioning Check4Jobs to AdView in May 2011. AdView carved its niche by providing job seekers with the latest opportunities via email, RSS, and XML. Even with the alluring offer from Saongroup in 2014, Alexander held firm, believing in the larger potential still unfulfilled.

Vision for Expansion

The turning point came in 2016 with Shane McGourty's partnership, which brought a fresh perspective. Together, they envisioned a global brand—a platform for the many, not just the few. Over three transformative years, Paterson and McGourty not only fostered a reputable standing amongst their peers but also set the foundations to introduce WhatJobs.com to the vast landscape of the United States.

Establishing Global Influence

2017 marked a strategic pivot as the duo began recruiting top industry talent to actualize their vision. This period also saw the inception of AdView's global publisher program, quickly becoming the envy of the online recruitment world.

Strategic Alliances and Growth

By 2019, Paterson, with Shane’s introduction, brought Adil Rehman on board. Adil, the then-managing Director of Gigajob.com, was integral in expanding their operational reach, particularly in the DACH region of Europe. That same year, after meeting with Paterson, Adil was convinced of the vision and joined the board of directors.

Technological Excellence

In 2019, the team welcomed ‘Sudi’ Sudhakar Gunaseelan, lauded as an extraordinary software engineer by Adil. His appointment as COO marked the commencement of a technological renaissance within the company.

A Bold Response to Global Challenges

2020 was a year of unexpected global upheaval. Yet, amidst the pandemic, McGourty & Paterson opted for action over hesitation. With Adil Rehman and Sudhakar Gunaseelan, the board's decisiveness led to the rebirth of AdView as WhatJobs, signifying a renewed, aggressive push toward international expansion. By the end of 2020, WhatJobs' presence skyrocketed to 31 countries across all continents.

Expansion and Innovation

That pivotal year also witnessed strategic acquisitions, including a WhatNews, Spanish competitor El Curriculum, pivotal to the LATAM market, and a business directory WhatBiz. Additionally, Adil Rehman and Sudhakar Gunaseelan spearheaded the establishment of a new Digital Centre of Excellence in Asia, ushering in an era of ambitious talent acquisition to propel the company's mission forward.
