When analysing the recruitment market it is very apparent that companies in the ëonlineí market are trying to differentiate themselves by adopting new forms of technology such as SMS, or by developing more mobile interfaces to their online content using WAP.
These improvements have enabled parts of the candidate base to quickly find out about new vacancies and new information from channel and content providers alike. However, these forms of rapid information provision still exclude the majority of jobseekers who represent the ëlate adoptersí many of us are so familiar with.
J-Mail represents the first real answer to this problem and is unique in that it uses speech technologies that are ëtransparentí to the end user. The system is also accessible via ANY land or mobile telephone.
Interested candidates can set up their profile and search criteria on leading websites that provide email vacancy services. A simple interface on the website allows candidates to sign up for the service and collect J-Mail, which match their criteria.
The J-Mail system is designed to interface with existing telephone and data networks including back office systems and databases and can be configured in one of two ways (or a mixture of both):
1) The Outbound Model
On signing up for the service on the relevant web site, the user can stipulate the frequency and time at which they wish to be contacted about new vacancies.
J-Mail interfaces with existing search engines and databases and generates a series of headlines for each new job available (J-Mails). The system will then call the candidate at the specified time and offer them a menu that allows the user to browse and LISTEN to headlines of new jobs. Additional options include the ability to listen to a detailed description of each new vacancy. The system can be configured to either register an interest by pressing a key or the user has the option to be connected directly to the content provider or recruitment consultancy.
The key differentiator here is that the system can automatically collect information about the candidate and if necessary connect them in real time to the recruitment firm.
2) The Inbound Model
The system can be configured to ëdovetailí with SMS outbound messages that simply inform the users they have, for example, 6 new vacancies matching their requirements. The candidate simply dials a centralised number and has access to the same functionality outlined in the Outbound model. Candidates in fact have access to their J-Mails 24 X 7 X 365 from any location with a working telephone.
The commercial impact of using this form of interface and real time information is staggering! It is feasible to imagine whole networks of people and ëadvertisersí being connected in real time by registering on websites for these types of services. The mobility of this interface for the candidate (or buyer) blurs the boundary between commerce based services and a powerful personalised marketing tool.
The future?
J-Mail represents the pre-cursor to more advanced technologies such as ëVoice Portalsí using vxml protocols, although these websites are currently few and far between. IP Globalnet is currently one of the market leaders in providing speech-enabled solutions and hopes to be one of the first companies to create a commercial voice portal.
