National recruitment pack and website launched

Potential recruits will find it easier to apply to join the police force with a radical overhaul of recruitment procedures announced today by Home Office Minister Bob Ainsworth.

The new measures include:
A new national recruitment pack incorporating for the first time a standard application form for all 43 forces in England and Wales.

Allowing applicants to apply for up to three forces at the same time.

A revamped website, www.policecouldyou.co.uk, which allows applicants to.

Find out more about being a police officer.

Complete a self-test questionnaire to check they are eligible to join.

Check details of vacancies in each police force and local recruitment events and apply online.

Home Office Minister Bob Ainsworth said:

ìBeing a police officer is a deeply rewarding job. Police officers play a key role in making communities safer places to live and work. We now have record numbers of police officers and want to keep it that way by making it as easy as possible for talented individuals to join the police service.

ìThe new website and recruitment pack will make it easier for people to join the police. Creating a standard application procedure will improve consistency and fairness and make it easier for people from all backgrounds to access information and apply to the police service.

ìIt is central to the police reform agenda that standard assessment and application procedures should apply across all forces. Candidates will be selected who match the required competencies and physical requirements for the job in a way that is fair and non-discriminatory.

ìIt is vital that the police service reflects the diversity of the community it serves. Providing clear information and a standard recruitment procedure will make the process more straightforward and encourage suitable applicants who meet the entry requirements, including those from groups traditionally underrepresented in the force.

ìItís about getting the right people in the right jobs in the right numbers.î
