ResourceBank staff complete mammoth charity cycle challenge

Over 50 staff took turns to cycle for half an hour at a time, with the aim of virtually covering 783 miles on static bikes

Staff at outsources recruitment and HR specialist ResourceBank got in the saddle and cycled almost 800 miles in just one day for mental health charities.

Staff at the firm's offices in Telford, Henley-on-Thames and India, as well as in their own homes, managed to raise more than £2,000 during the feat - with an expected final figure set to reach £3,000.

The recruitment, talent and HR services team is splitting the donations between Action Medical Research, the company’s partner charity, and Shout85258, the UK’s first free confidential text messaging support service for anyone who is struggling with mental health.

Only one person suffered a pulled muscle injury during the challenge, which began at 10am on Blue Monday - January 16 - and was completed by 10am the following morning.

The virtual route took staff members on a tour of the UK head offices of 15 key customers, travelling from Yorkshire, through London, Cornwall and Birmingham, then finishing at their Telford offices.

Richard Pearson, chief executive of ResourceBank, said: "It was a great occasion and a real boost to team morale throughout the 24 hours challenge.

“Everyone got involved in one way or another and we are delighted with how much we raised, with money still coming in, for these great causes.

“Six members of staff at Telford took turns throughout the night and we had people cycling from home and from elsewhere.

“It was a fun group activity to focus on during a challenging time of year and I am delighted by the positive reaction of the team.”

It is the second time ResourceBank has decided to hold a Blue Monday staff challenge for charity.

Last year the team rowed for 24 hours in support of Team Elijah’s Star and raised more than £2,500.

People can still donate to the causes through a JustGiving page here.
