Deutsches Sportfernsehen (DSF), Germanyís leading niche sports channel, recently teamed up with StepStone Germany to find a fresh face for its new basketball programme. The recruitment campaign, spanning February and March 2001, marks a watershed for StepStone as it moves into
providing recruiting solutions for the entertainment industry.
A joint DSF/StepStone branded TV advert, announcing the recruitment drive, was aired on DSF. The advert directed applicants to a dedicated DSF microsite which was hosted by StepStone. The campaign was supported by banner ads on the homepages of both StepStone and DSF as well as Sport1, Germanyís leading sports website. These steered the would-be presenters to an online job description and application form.
Results:
The site registered 25.197 user sessions resulting in 1.212 applications
A staggering 900 (74%) applications were submitted online rather than by traditional mail methods
The campaign has been so successful that a second casting session for another presenter is planned
DSFís programme manager Wolfgang Wild said: ìWe decided to use a different approach to recruitment and it paid off. Our search for a presenter was a complete success. In Charlotte Karlinder we have found a young and natural presenter who appeals to our audience and is exactly what we were looking for.î
From May to July, Charlotte Karlinder (26) will present the ìT-D1 NBA Basketball Challengeî which offers 18,000 teenagers in nine German cities the opportunity to exhibit their basketball skills.
