UK Corporate Website Recruiting & Direct Approaches

.

Recent research by independent recruitment process consultancy ñ Intelligent People Solutions ñ reveals that the majority of UK employers have yet to integrate Internet recruitment initiatives into a comprehensive recruitment strategy.

Proactive Candidates looking for employment opportunities on corporate websites or via the telephone can expect a largely unrewarding experience and a minimal return on their investment.

Less than 30% of 300 major UK ìTechnologyî and ìNon-Technologyî sector employers appear to have developed a Front-End or Applicant Tracking System to enhance and capitalise on the Candidates visit. 56% have no apparent interest in encouraging speculative job applications via their websites.

Although, 72% of ìTechnologyî and 49% of ìNon-Technologyî sector companies had the facility to advertise current UK vacancies on their websites, some high-profile employers had abandoned the idea altogether and advised candidates to read the press ! 70% of all websites required CVís to be emailed to a company contact or general email raising the question of what resources those companies are using to capitalise on them.

Of those who had a relatively well developed corporate careers section, the vast majority were US centric, with few or no European/UK based roles advertised.
A very significant proportion returned ìno vacanciesî despite the fact that they were actually recruiting, and often after the visitor had been encouraged to read what an exciting, challenging and expanding employer they were.
When telephoned directly, 47% of all companies were unwilling, uninterested or unable to accept a speculative application. None of the companies approached significantly qualified the relevance of a Candidates experience prior to recommending an application or further course of action.

Only 7% of companies with careers advertised on their corporate websites directed callers to them.
Regardless of market conditions, quality Candidates remain at a premium and those that take the time to investigate potential employers doubly so.

Innovations in systems and the emergence of the Internet as a recruitment tool affords companies the opportunity to attract, convince process and capture Jobseekers more efficiently and cost-effectively than in the past.

UK employers appear to be forgoing significant process and cost efficiencies, pursuing piecemeal initiatives that risk increased recruitment timescales and expenditure whilst alienating potentially key employees.
