What makes the UK Work?

Major UK employment survey launched by Randstad

Major UK employment survey launched by Randstad

As figures released last month announce that Britons work a longer week ñ an average 43.6 hours* ñ than anyone else in Europe, labour market specialist Randstad has launched a major UK employment survey. The survey, which targets both employers and employees, will address a number of current issues in the labour market to build a clear picture of the UK employment industry and how it is moving forward.

Employers and employees will be asked to give their views on the ëwork-life balanceí and ëflexible hoursí debates, whether the Governmentís initiatives are making a difference in the workplace, employment law and work culture. Employee loyalty will also be investigated, a subject of particular interest to Randstad, as research has shown it to be the market leader in the UK when it comes to gaining loyalty from a flexible workforce, attracting flex-workers that remain with the company far longer than the majority of its competitors.

Commenting on the survey, Hans Hoogeveen, Randstad UKís Managing Director said, ìThis is a major survey which aims to draw opinions from both sides of the employment market. Randstadís core business is the well-timed matching of individual peopleís demand for challenging and well-paid work and the demand of companies and organisations for suitable personnel of the right calibre. The results of this survey will enable us to continue to offer a value-added service and to tailor our solutions to meet specific customer needs, according to local and regional employment requirements.

ìThrough sharing this information and best practice we can help those looking to hire workers and those seeking a job to get the most from their work and their workforce.î

With more than 40 years experience worldwide and based in the UK since 1989, Randstad has the proven employment expertise to implement this survey and is well-placed to advise and guide both employers and employees in this marketplace. The survey follows closely on the heels of Randstadís launch in January of Workpocket, the first all-in-one reference handbook in the UK. Tailored specifically to the UK market, Workpocket gives practical advice on topics such as recruitment, employment law, pensions, pay and taxation.
