Yahoo! appoints Daniel J. Finnigan executive vice president & General manager of Hotjobs

Seasoned Media and Internet Executive Will Head HotJobs Expansion in $6.6 Billion Recruitment Classifieds Market

Yahoo! Inc. announced the appointment of Daniel J. Finnigan as senior vice president of Yahoo! and executive vice president and general manager of HotJobs.com, Ltd, a leading recruitment solutions company acquired by Yahoo! in February 2002. Finnigan will be responsible for all HotJobs operations, including ongoing integration with Yahoo! and the development and expansion of HotJobs' position in the online recruitment space. Finnigan will be based in New York City, and as a key member of Yahoo!'s management team, will report to Greg Coleman, executive vice president of North American operations.

A seasoned executive in the online listings and classifieds business, Finnigan most recently served as president of Knight Ridder Digital. In that role, Finnigan was responsible for all of Knight Ridder's Internet products, brands, and operations, including Real Cities Network and CareerBuilder, Knight Ridder's joint venture with Tribune Company. Since Finnigan's appointment in 1999, Knight Ridder Digital's Internet traffic increased 100 percent and revenues have expanded considerably. Finnigan was also an active member of the Board of Directors for Classified Ventures, a Chicago-based company owned by Knight Ridder, Inc., Belo Corporation, Gannett Company, The McClatchy Company, The New York Times Company, Tribune Company, and The Washington Post Company. As a member of the board's executive committee, Finnigan played a key role in driving strategy for classified listings sites Cars.com and Apartments.com. Prior to joining Knight Ridder Digital, Finnigan was president and chief executive officer of SBC Interactive, a subsidiary of SBC Communications, where he launched and operated SMARTpages.com (formerly AtHand.com), a leading national online yellow pages directory for Pacific Bell, Southwestern Bell, Ameritech, Southern New England Telephone, and across the country.

Dan's experience, leadership style, and reputation as a visionary who also possesses outstanding operational skills, will help us create a powerful force in the recruitment marketplace, said Coleman. Dan has invested his career in the online listings and classifieds business since the Web's inception. Recognized as one of the best Internet executives in the newspaper industry, Dan brings a unique perspective that we believe will help Yahoo! and HotJobs attract a greater share of recruitment advertising dollars as they continue to migrate online.

The online segment of the recruitment marketplace is large, with significant long-term growth potential. According to estimates by Forrester Research (April 2002), the U.S. recruitment classifieds market is estimated to be approximately $6.6 billion in 2002. Of this, approximately $1 billion will be spent online, and is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22 percent over the next five years.

Prior to his experience at SBC Interactive, Finnigan worked with the Times Mirror Company in product development, where he was responsible for the creation and general management of electronic information services; and new business development, where he was a key participant in the planning and formation of the LA Times' first Internet business plan and key Internet investments. Prior to this he was a senior consultant for The Advisory Board Company in Washington, D.C., a membership of 2,000 of the country's largest and most progressive health systems and medical centers, and a freelance reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer and Los Angeles Times.

Finnigan received a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication studies from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Masters of Business Administration from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
