The news is a major disappointment for Jobserve, who staged the event so successfully last year at the New Connaught Rooms in London, and who were expecting nearly 3,000 delegates to attend.
But today MD Robbie Cowling said he had no choice but to cancel the event because there had not been enough interest from firms in exhibiting. ìWe are extremely sorry to have to disappoint those companies who had already committed to attending the event and the 2,500 delegates who had already signed up to come along. We pride ourselves on delivering a first rate service in everything we do and had we pressed ahead, we would have been putting on an event that was not of the sort of quality we want to deliver. We felt we would have been letting down not just our clients but ourselves.î
Plans had been drawn up to make the event even better this year with a motivational speaker and special CV workshops for candidates as well as the usual range of first-rate exhibitors and presentations.
Mr Cowling added that he was also deeply disappointed for the Jobserve team who had been working extremely hard to promote the event. ìItís very difficult for them, because they have done everything they possibly can to persuade exhibitors to take part. It is a shame because we received such positive feedback from last yearís event and we were sure we could generate the same level of interest again.î
Mr Cowling said the last few months had been a tough time for the recruitment industry and he felt that extra marketing activities were the first things to be axed from tight budgets in many firms.
Marketing manager Karen McDermott said the Jobserve sales team would be calling everyone who had booked an exhibition stand personally to explain the reasons for cancelling the Event and that every delegate who had booked to come along would also be contacted today via email: ìNaturally everyone will be very disappointed but we feel sure they will understand that it wouldnít be in their interests either to press ahead with a less than perfect event.î
