The total number of Internet users in the region now stands at 45.8 million, a rise of 19.3 million since the end of June 2001.

China has 16.13 million computers linked to the Internet, an increase of 61 percent since last year.

The number of websites in China has also risen by 20.8 percent over the same period to reach 293,2113.

Female surfers now account for 39.1 percent of China''s Internet population, while the percentage of Internet users without college education stands at 68.3 percent.

The average Internet user spends approximately 8.3 hours on the Internet each week and receives 6.5 emails and sends 5.3 mails, according to the report.
