International awards: UK companies invited to enter

For employers with innovative practices for older people

For employers with innovative practices for older people

Entries are now being accepted by TAEN – The Age and Employment Network from UK companies who wish submit applications for the prestigious 2009 AARP International Innovative Employer Awards.

The awards recognise employers who demonstrate positive commitments to their age 50 and older workforce. Deadline for receipt is Friday 24 April 2009.

To download a brochure and an application form just pull up the TAEN website www.taen.org.uk and click on the orange box inviting you to apply.

This will be the second year that TAEN has linked up with AARP, the US-based non-profit organisation representing 40 million members aged 50 and over, to encourage and co-ordinate entries from the UK.

Since the turn of the millennium AARP has been recognising the growing number of employers who are developing progressive workplace policies and practices to meet the needs of an ageing workforce.

Last year for the first time AARP expanded its recognition of employers across the globe and four out of ten awards went to UK companies - Agewell - Sandwell Primary Care Trust; BT Group plc; Centrica plc and Domestic & General Group Limited.

ìWith the economic downturn it is even more essential to keep an experienced and loyal workforceî says Chris Ball, CEO of TAEN. ìIt will be interesting to see how companies have been creative in their retention practices for older people and what other positive measures they are taking as budgets are trimmed. We very much hope that the UK will
keep the flag flying and that we will have even more winners this year.î
