U.S. and Mexico Colleges Use IHRIM Online HR Resources

Students Utilize Articles to Compare/Contrast HR Systems.

When students register for the online HRL451 HR information systems course at Sullivan University in Louisville, Kentucky, part of the class requirement is to be a student member of IHRIM. IHRIM member and HR instructor at Sullivan University, Stacy Rogers says, ìThe information from IHRIMís online articles and product information is invaluable to the students. They are written and presented in ways that keep the readerís attention and focus on real-life scenarios.î Sullivan offers a bachelorís degree in Human Resource Leadership completely online and human resource information systems is part of the core requirement for this program.

Ms. Rogers, who has a BS in Psychology and a masterís degree in HR Development, designed the online course and Sullivan began offering it in the spring quarter of 2003. In addition to the IHRIM resources, Ms. Rogers draws from her own experience as an HR manager at Humana, Inc. and from other research. ìThe students are required to complete a presentation comparing/contrasting three HRIS systems and the information they can get from the IHRIM Web site is current and applicable to their assignments.î Each year IHRIM gains new student members from Sullivan University and many of them retain their membership after entering the workforce.

About 2,000 miles south, in Mexico City, six students are taking the HR Management 350 course as a part of an accelerated bachelorís program at Endicott College Mexico. At the request of Cynthia Kaplan, adjunct professor of HR Management at Endicottís Mexico City Campus, the students have been enrolled as IHRIM members for July and August 2004 to have online access to HR technology articles, research and white papers.

ìI want the students to be able to supplement their readings and research articles to find information for their final project and other assignments related to HR management, and I knew IHRIM was a good place to turn,î according to Professor Kaplan.

This educational outreach reflects IHRIMís goals of providing HR technology education to its members worldwide. Through domestic and international resources, IHRIM provides its members with fast and easy access to HR technology solutions, global HR systems, and system-related activities information from around the globe.
